Leave it to Taylor Swift to bring a fresh breeze of excitement to the British royal family. The pop sensation recently hosted a memorable encounter with Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte backstage at her Eras Tour stop in London. Travis Kelce, Swift's boyfriend, shared the delightful details of the royal meet-up on his podcast "New Heights," co-hosted with his brother and former NFL center, Jason Kelce.
"We don't even know if we're allowed to tell you guys, but we're gonna say it here," Travis revealed on the podcast. "We've gotten mixed messages on whether we're allowed to share this story or not," Jason added, underscoring the unexpected nature of the royal encounter.
Travis recounted how he managed to avoid traffic delays and arrived early enough to meet Prince William and his children. "I was fortunate enough that I didn't get caught in traffic long enough to where I got there early and got to meet Prince William. How about that! Your royal highness, Prince William!" he exclaimed. Prince William shared his own joy on social media, posting a behind-the-scenes snap of the royal family with Swift and Kelce.
Reflecting on the meeting, Travis expressed his admiration for the Prince of Wales, calling him "the coolest motherf---er." He elaborated, "We're backstage meeting him because he was there with little George and Charlotte, and they were an absolute delight to meet. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to bow to them, curtsy, just be an American idiot and shake their hands," he joked. Jason chimed in, noting that since it wasn't an official royal event, formal gestures like bowing were unnecessary.
Although it was their first time meeting the prince, Swift and Prince William have a history. The pair previously met at the 2013 Winter Whites Gala in London, where they famously sang karaoke with Jon Bon Jovi. Travis highlighted this anecdote, saying, "Taylor got him out of his shell and sure enough he went up there and they ripped it. That just shows you how personable he is."
Jason, clearly impressed by the encounter, added, "I've never felt emasculated, and I did. That's the closest I've ever been. They were wonderful people." Travis also praised Prince William's parenting, particularly highlighting Princess Charlotte. "Prince William was fantastic, but the highlight was Princess Charlotte. She was so f---ing adorable," he said. Jason agreed, adding, "She had fire to her. She was asking questions. I love it when parents ask their kids to be present, be vocal."
The Kelce brothers' admiration for the royal family was evident, with Jason noting, "They were an absolute delight to meet. Hard to be a down-to-earth human being I would assume, but came off that way completely." The encounter underscored a lighthearted and personable side of the royals, with Travis and Jason both feeling honored and a bit starstruck.
The visit also had a subtle undertone amidst the ongoing tensions between Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield pointed out that Swift's friendly interaction with the Wales family seemed to align her more with "Team Wales," especially given Meghan Markle's unsuccessful attempt to get Swift on her "Archetypes" podcast. "Meghan Markle had requested for Taylor to be on her podcast. She wrote her a handwritten letter and Taylor's team rejected it," Schofield noted.
The contrast between the joyful scenes at Swift's concert and the reported tensions at a Beyoncé concert attended by Harry and Meghan was stark. Schofield remarked, "You're just seeing that Prince William is pursuing joy. And I think that is important."
