As a result of her supposedly "insincere" comments, the interview that Meghan Markle gave to the BBC journalist Mishal Husain regarding her wedding engagement should have raised some worries, according to a former insider from the Royal Household.
In order to commemorate the announcement that Prince Harry and Meghan would be getting married in 2017, Mishal sat down with the couple.
After some time had passed, the Duchess of Sussex referred to the interview as an "orchestrated reality show" in a statement that she made in her documentary series on Netflix titled "Harry & Meghan," which was initially broadcast in the year 2022. There were reports that the BBC did not accept the assertion at the time.
In an article that was published in the Daily Mail, royal commentator Richard Eden stated that he had spoken to sources who worked at the Palace during the time that Mishal interviewed Prince Harry and Meghan. According to reports, they gave him the impression that the Duchess of Sussex’s "performance" ought to have caused him more concern.
An unnamed source said that there was so much excitement around Prince Harry and Meghan's engagement that nobody really questioned the comments made by the Duchess throughout the engagement.
“If you watch it again now, some of her responses seem insincere and her body language is telling,” it added. Meghan had allegedly expressed her dissatisfaction with Mishal, who was neither "empathetic" or "warm" enough to conduct the interview, according to a royal insider who spoke to the Daily Mail diarist.
The criticism comes after Mishal, in an article that she wrote for the August issue of Saga magazine, stated that she did not know what to make of Meghan's comment on Netflix. She also stated that there was no inkling of the challenges that would follow in relation to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure from royal life.
Prince Harry made the assertion that royal journalists were "essentially an extended PR arm of the Royal Family" in the same series that was available on Netflix, as per Express UK. Specifically, he asserted that this was the consequence of an agreement that had been in effect for more than thirty years.
When compared to engagement interviews with Diana, Princess of Wales, and Princess Kate, Richard observed that Meghan appeared to have a greater sense of self-assurance during the BBC sit down with Mishal. He suggested that the Meghan’s body language gave the impression that she was the "dominant half of the partnership."
In addition, he brought to light certain inconsistencies in the couple's narrative, such as the fact that Meghan claimed to Mishal that she had met Prince Harry on a blind date, although the Duke said that the two had met over Instagram.
It is possible that Meghan did not know the name of the man she went to meet on the date, but she still managed to connect with Harry through the picture-sharing app. This is a possibility that needs to be considered.
In spite of the fact that she had been photographed outside Buckingham Palace on a trip to London when she was in her teens with her friend Ninaki Priddy, Meghan told Mishal that she knew very little about Prince Harry before they met.
Pridi is said to have remarked on Meghan's getting married to Prince Harry. "I'm not shocked at all. It's like she has been planning this all her life,” she stated.
"We know recollections may vary on this particular subject,” Mishal hit back in response to Meghan's Netflix claim at the time.
It echoed a phrase used by the Queen Elizabeth who said "recollections may vary" in a statement after Prince Harry and Meghan leveled a series of allegations against the Windsors during an interview by Oprah Winfrey.
