Recent revelations about the health crisis that Queen Elizabeth II endured in the years preceding her 96th birthday have shed light on this tragic event.
The late queen's tranquil death on September 88, 2022, ended her historic 70-year reign. In his forthcoming biography, "Unleashed," former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson recounts the last moments of the monarch's life over two years after her passing.
Queen Elizabeth's health had "gone down quite a bit over the summer" before Boris got the chance to speak with her two days before she died; he admits that this information was relayed to him by Edward Young, Her Majesty's confidential secretary.
"I had known for a year or more that she had a form of bone cancer, and her doctors were worried that at any time she could enter a sharp decline," the former prime minister claimed in an excerpt of his book obtained from The Daily Mail.
"She seemed pale and more stooped, and she had dark bruising on her hands and wrists, probably from drips or injections," Boris described regarding his final memory of Queen Elizabeth. "But her mind – as Edward had also said – was completely unimpaired by her illness, and from time to time in our conversation she still flashed that great white smile in its sudden mood-lifting beauty."
The former head of the Conservative Party formally resigned during Boris and Elizabeth's last conversation. In the seven decades that Elizabeth was queen, he became the fourteenth prime minister to serve in that capacity, as per AP News.
Gyles stated that Queen Elizabeth was battling a rare form of myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, and described how the illness "would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those'mobility issues' we were often told about during the last year or so of her life.".
Because of privacy concerns, the queen's medical records have been withheld from the public, TODAY.com reported. The official cause of death was listed as "old age."
