There has always been a strong connection between Princess Kate Middleton and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh; nevertheless, it appears that the two personalities share more in common than most people realize. Both of the senior royals have married into the monarchy, and they have a unique bond because they both had "ordinary" upbringings in comparison to their husbands, Prince William and Prince Edward. In addition to being a close neighbor in Windsor, the Princess of Wales appears to be one of the most important allies of the Duchess of Edinburgh.
"Sophie and Catherine are very close - I think much more so than people realise," royal commentator Katie Nicholl said according to Mirror. "There's not a huge age difference between them, and Sophie really welcomed Catherine when she married into the family. She was an outsider and so-called commoner, just as Sophie was, so they had that bond from an early stage."
The Duchess Sophie was raised in Kent and received her education at prestigious private schools. In spite of their wealth, the Rhys-Jones family did not socialize with the most influential people, as stated in a report that was broadcast by the BBC in the year 2001. Despite the fact that Princess Kate was born in Berkshire to parents who worked as flight attendant and aircraft dispatcher, she was raised in an upper-middle class home.
Throughout the years, photographs of the two have consistently suggested that they share a unique bond. This was evident at Royal Ascot in 2017, when they were captured laughing together as Duchess Sophie almost fell into their carriage and came dangerously close to landing on Princess Kate.
In 2018, they collaborated to host the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange at Buckingham Palace. They have also been photographed together on joint shopping trips in London and watching Wimbledon together.
Additionally, during the epidemic, the two women collaborated in order to conduct a video call to nurses who were working hard in various areas throughout the world. These destinations included Australia, India, Malawi, the Bahamas, and Cyprus.
According to Yahoo!, Duchess Sophie, like Princess Kate, appears to be universally respected and liked, and her appeal to younger and older royals has led to her being dubbed a "bridge between generations." This is despite the fact that other individuals who married into the family, such as the late Princess Diana and Meghan Markle, talked about how difficult it was for them to adjust to the stringent expectations of The Firm.
As royal commentator Katie said, "Sophie is a very popular member of the family because she's easy-going, there's never any drama, and she just gets on with the job, quietly and diligently."
In addition, it is said that Duchess Sophie has a strong relationship with her sister-in-law, Queen Camilla, because both of them have played an important role in providing support to King Charles throughout his battle with cancer in 2024. She and her husband, Prince Edward, also appear to have been a rock of support for her nephew, Prince William, during the conflict that he was having with his brother, Prince Harry.
