Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago reception for a Jan. 6 lawyer's documentary has reignited concerns about the Capitol riot's lasting impact. Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance contends the gathering signals a disregard for democratic principles, calling it an unsettling attempt to normalize past threats to the electoral system.

An ex-prosecutor issued a statement on Sunday describing the recent gathering that took place at Mar-a-Lago to promote a new documentary that was released on January 6 as an obvious smack in the face to democracy.

In the aftermath, she made an appearance on MSNBC to talk about the case in question as well as the Mar-a-Lago meeting that was centered around the documentary about John Eastman, who is widely regarded as an architect of the legal side of January 6. In addition, she pointed out that Republicans in both the Senate and the House were astounded by the events that transpired on January 6.
"Many of them issued stinging condemnations of Donald Trump. So for him to sit in Mar-a-Lago honoring John Eastman, one of the architects of January 6, someone with a legal education who failed to honor his obligation to uphold the Constitution, that speaks volumes about where Donald Trump is as he embarks on this second presidency," Vance said.
