Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have expressed their opinion that the harsh statements made by Justine Bateman were "offensive." This is due to the fact that they participated in the relief efforts for persons who were affected by the wildfires that occurred in Los Angeles on Friday.
A former cast member of "Family Ties" referred to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as "disaster tourists" after photographs were published showing them donating food and supplies to victims outside of the Pasadena Convention Center.
Page Six has received a statement from a source that states, "It is offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think that this is merely a photo opportunity."
Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles, therefore the city will always be her home. The couple currently resides approximately 90 miles north of the city, but according to the source, she will always consider Los Angeles to be her home.
The insider said that Meghan, who is 43 years old, is not only a tourist; rather, her heart is absolutely torn for all of the lives that have been lost and for those whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by the fires.
In addition to donating money and basic supplies, Prince Harry, who is 40 years old, and Meghan have committed a large amount of time and energy.
"They have also dedicated countless hours to volunteering, long before the media even caught wind of their involvement," the source said.
On Saturday of the previous week, Bateman published her critique of the two individuals on the social media platform X. In her post, she declared that they "are no better than ambulance chasers."
According to Daily Mail, the actress, who is 58 years old, uploaded a video clip over the weekend that showed Prince Harry and Meghan giving their time at a convention center in Pasadena, California.
Bateman expressed that the situation was a repulsive "photo op" and questioned whether they were "touring the damage," wondering if they had become politicians.
In her conclusion, she stated that they are not residents of the area but rather tourists, referring to them as "disaster tourists" in reference to the Palisades Fire where they were visiting.
During the course of the preceding week, the city of Los Angeles was the location of a number of fires that broke out in the city. Over 150,000 people have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, which have combined to damage more than 40,000 acres of property.
Business Times has reached out to Justine Bateman for additional comments.
