The comment that Timothée Chalamet made regarding the late President Jimmy Carter during his appearance on "Saturday Night Live" was deemed "disrespectful," and it resulted in criticism from members of the public.

According to Page Six, in a spoof that also featured Heidi Gardner and Michael Longfellow, who played her on-screen companion, the actor, who is best known for his role in "Little Women," played the part of Nathaniel Latrine, a bungee teacher.

During their time together, they participated in a series of activities that were not appropriate for those who were "faint of heart," which laid the groundwork for a humorous training session.

In the time that Chalamet was leading the students through a series of motions that simulated flying and swimming, he abruptly yelled out, "Jimmy Carter!"

Because of this unexpected joke, the star, who is 29 years old, along with the other players, fell to the ground, giving the impression that they were lifeless while they were dangling from their bungee rope structures.

It was reported by ANI News that the audience responded with gasps, and spectators at home were not too happy with the performance.

The comments left on the YouTube video of the sketch reflected the audience's dissatisfaction.

Someone commented, "Someone is going to hell for that one in particular," while another user added, "The Jimmy Carter bit was wild."

There was a third person who commented, "Too soon," meaning that the joke was improper in light of the recent passing of the former president.

There were a number of other people who came to X (which was then known as Twitter) to express their concerns.

One user commented, "Was funny until that Jimmy Carter line," underscoring the insensitive character of the comment.

Jimmy Carter, who had been receiving hospice care for approximately two years prior to his passing on December 29 in Plains, Georgia, and who had reached the age of 100, passed away.

His funeral was attended by a large number of important people, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and current President Donald Trump, among others.

In contrast to the criticism, Chalamet also made a joke about himself during the episode of "Saturday Night Live," in which he jokingly addressed the fact that he had not won any awards over the course of his career.

Following the performance, the actor, who had a role in the film "Call Me By Your Name," went to an afterparty at The Pool in New York City. Kylie Jenner, his girlfriend, accompanied him.

Business Times has reached out to Timothée Chalamet's representatives to obtain additional remarks regarding the incident under discussion.
