In an alleged tweet that has since been removed, Oscar nominee Karla Sofía Gascón is said to have insulted her co-star Selena Gomez in the film "Emilia Pérez."
According to the Latin Times, the actress, who is 52 years old, made a comment about the reported animosity between Gomez and Hailey Bieber, who is the wife of Justin Bieber, in a post that was published in 2022 and shared on X (which was then known as Twitter).
According to reports, Gascón published the following caption below a photo of Gomez and Hailey reconciling at the Annual Academy Museum Gala in October 2022: "She's a rich rat who plays the poor bitch whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife."
This resurrected message comes after the actress's previous social media activity began to circulate online in the latter part of the month of January.
Through a number of the posts, which ranged from May 2016 to April 2023, Gascón insulted the religion of Islam and voiced his disapproval of George Floyd, who was murdered by a white Minneapolis police officer in the year 2020.
Gascón, who made history by being the first transgender actor to be nominated for the Academy Award for best actress, has since canceled her X account and apologized for the posts that have found their way back into the public eye.
According to a statement that she provided to Page Six through her representative, she said, "I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt."
She expressed that, as someone from a marginalized community, she understood the suffering all too well and was deeply sorry for the pain she had caused.
She also shared that she had spent her life fighting for a better world and believed that light would always triumph over darkness.
Gascón has not apologized to Gomez, although she reportedly referenced to the post on Instagram on Saturday.
The actress responded to criticism of her "rich rat" joke by stating, "They have created posts as if it were me insulting even my colleagues."
"Things that I wrote to glorify as if they were criticisms, jokes as if they were reality, words that without the background only seem like hate. Everything as long as I don't win anything and I sink," she added.
In addition to that, she wrote about getting forgiveness.
In "Emilia Pérez," Gascón plays a Mexican cartel kingpin who becomes a woman after feigning death. After years, Emilia reunites with her lawyer (Zoe Saldaña) to rejoin with her wife (Gomez) and children.
