Hailey Bieber is confronting growing public scrutiny of her marriage to Justin Bieber and speaking out about the emotional toll of postpartum life, calling the period "the most sensitive time I've ever gone through in my life." In a new Vogue interview published May 20, the 28-year-old model and founder of skincare line Rhode pushed back against rumors of marital instability and social media attacks that intensified after the birth of her son.
"It's not real," Hailey said, referring to persistent online gossip. "And that's the thing: I have a real life. My real life is that I get to wake up to my beautiful family and my son and my friends and I have people that know me and love me and I love them."
Hailey and singer Justin Bieber, 31, welcomed their first child, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024. She said the period following his birth was especially painful due to the constant internet speculation. "Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I've ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult," she said. "And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, 'They're getting divorced' and 'they're this' and 'they're not happy.' It is such a mindf---. I cannot even begin to explain it."
The interview also touched on the couple's public appearances and how they are navigating rumors while under intense media focus. The Biebers made headlines when they appeared together at a Toronto Maple Leafs playoff game on May 19. In a viral clip, Justin can be heard saying, "Let's go, baby," as the couple walked to their seats. They embraced in the stands despite the team's 6-1 loss and later posted affectionate photos from the outing. "I don't remember a time in my life when I haven't been obsessed with the leafsssss," Justin wrote on Instagram. "I can be patient cuz I know this is the team to do it."
Hailey also said she has struggled with how to respond publicly to false narratives. She can't "tell my side of a story or correct a narrative without being accused of lying," she told Vogue. "It's a crazy life to live."
Justin, who has faced similar levels of public scrutiny since childhood, encouraged her to ignore the noise. "He was like, 'Baby, trust me, I've been here before many, many times. You're not going to win. There is no winning,'" Hailey recounted.
Her remarks come just days after Justin's spokesperson issued a statement distancing the singer from the federal sex trafficking case involving Sean "Diddy" Combs. "Although Justin is not among Sean Combs' victims, there are individuals who were genuinely harmed by him," the statement said. "Shifting focus away from this reality detracts from the justice these victims rightfully deserve."
Despite the speculation, Hailey emphasized that motherhood has deepened her bond with Justin and shifted her priorities. "He's my priority," she said of her son Jack. "He is the most important thing to me." She added that becoming a mother has been "the biggest teacher" in her marriage: "You see your partner differently."
