Barack and Michelle Obama made a rare public appearance together in New York City this week, addressing months of swirling speculation about the state of their marriage. The couple was seen leaving a dinner at the upscale Lowell Hotel on May 27, marking the first time in six months they had been photographed together.

The former president, 63, wore a tailored black suit, while the former first lady, 61, stepped out in a ruffled black gown, black slingback heels, and gold statement jewelry. Despite being flanked by Secret Service agents, the couple did not display any overt public affection, fueling continued curiosity about their relationship.

Their appearance comes after a wave of rumors suggesting the Obamas were facing marital difficulties. Michelle's recent absence from high-profile events, including Donald Trump's January inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, intensified the speculation. Barack attended both alone.

"They don't pretend that they have this Camelot relationship. They're not trying to present that they're this magical couple," a source who worked with the couple told RadarOnline and Page Six.

Michelle addressed the rumors directly in recent interviews and podcast appearances. On "The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett," she said, "Everyone would know" if there were issues in their relationship, adding, "I'm not a martyr. I would be problem-solving in public. 'Let me tell you what he did.'"

She echoed similar sentiments on her own podcast, stating: "You cannot live through social media. Don't let that negative energy enter into your space. These are people who don't know you. A lot of this stuff is made up, and it does not feed you."

Michelle also maintained a steady solo public presence while promoting her podcast with her brother Craig Robinson. Her SXSW appearance in Austin, Texas, earlier this spring was her first since skipping January's events in Washington, D.C. Sources indicated to Page Six that she had been on an "extended holiday vacation" in Hawaii.

Despite the speculation, Barack has continued to post affectionate tributes online. In a Valentine's Day post earlier this year, he wrote: "Thirty-two years together and you still take my breath away. Happy Valentine's Day, @MichelleObama!" He also honored her on Mother's Day, stating, "@MichelleObama, the girls and I are so lucky to have you in our lives. We love you."
