Sean "Diddy" Combs will be released from federal custody on April 25, 2028-more than five weeks earlier than previously scheduled-according to updated Federal Bureau of Prisons records first reported by Page Six.

The 56-year-old music executive had been set to leave Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey on June 4, 2028. The revised date advances his release by roughly six weeks, reflecting adjustments tied to prison programming and sentence calculations.

Combs is serving a 50-month sentence after a July 2025 jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges that could have carried life sentences. Federal prosecutors had sought a sentence exceeding 11 years.

At sentencing on Oct. 3, 2025, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian initially calculated a projected release date of May 8, 2028. The Bureau of Prisons later revised that date to June 4 after reports from CBS and TMZ indicated Combs had violated at least two prison rules. His representatives denied those claims, according to Rolling Stone.

The latest reduction appears linked to Combs' participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program, or RDAP, a nine-month initiative that can shorten sentences by up to one year for eligible inmates who complete it successfully. Judge Subramanian approved Combs' eligibility in October 2025, and he enrolled the following month.

"Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start," a spokesperson said at the time. "He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change." A separate statement to Rolling Stone said he was "taking his time there seriously and working every day toward healing and coming home."

In addition to RDAP, Combs has worked in the prison's chapel library. He also received credit for approximately 14 months served between his September 2024 arrest at a Manhattan hotel and his sentencing, according to the Mirror.

Under the sentence imposed, Combs will face:

  • Five years of supervised release.
  • A $500,000 (£405,000) fine.
  • Ongoing drug testing and mental health treatment.

His legal battle continues. In December 2025, his attorneys filed an appeal seeking reversal of the conviction, a reduced sentence, or immediate release. U.S. Circuit Court Judge Beth Robinson granted a request to expedite the appeal, with oral arguments scheduled for April 9, 2026, according to AllHipHop.

Defense lawyer Alexandra Shapiro has described the punishment as "draconian," arguing prosecutors relied on an outdated statute to criminalize what she characterizes as consensual adult relationships. Federal prosecutors filed their opposition brief in February 2026, urging the court to uphold both the conviction and sentence.

The seven-week trial concluded on July 2, 2025, with jurors convicting Combs on two transportation counts involving ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and a woman identified in court as "Jane." He was acquitted on the racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.

At sentencing, Combs told the court his past conduct was "disgusting, shameful and sick." He said he had been "sick from the drugs" and "out of control," and offered apologies to Ventura and "Jane."
