King Charles is reportedly facing fresh family tensions as disagreements over the future role of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie expose competing views inside the monarchy about how far the institution should distance itself from the fallout surrounding Prince Andrew.
According to claims published by Heat magazine and attributed to unnamed palace insiders, Princess Anne has become increasingly frustrated by what she sees as the gradual exclusion of her nieces from royal events and public engagements. The reported dispute centers on Queen Camilla's alleged influence over efforts to streamline the monarchy and limit the public profile of the York sisters.
The controversy intensified after Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 36, were absent from several high-profile events that they had traditionally attended. Reports earlier this year suggested the sisters would not participate in Royal Ascot alongside senior royals, while their absence from the Chelsea Flower Show added to speculation that their place within the wider royal circle is shrinking.
The reports have not been confirmed by Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, or Kensington Palace. Nevertheless, the claims have reignited debate about the long-term impact of Prince Andrew's scandals on members of his immediate family who have not been directly involved in any controversy.
One source cited by Heat claimed Princess Anne believes the treatment of her nieces is "awful" and described her as increasingly determined to challenge decisions she views as unfair. The insider alleged: "Anne is not happy that Eugenie and Beatrice are being frozen out."
The same source suggested Anne sees the situation as punishment for the actions of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson rather than a reflection of the sisters' own conduct. According to the report, Anne believes "this level of coldness is not in her brother's character" and that the approach has "Camilla's fingerprints all over it."
The dispute highlights a broader debate that has defined King Charles' reign. Since ascending the throne, Charles has emphasized a more focused monarchy centered on a smaller number of working royals. Supporters argue that such a structure improves efficiency and reduces reputational risks, particularly after years of controversies involving Prince Andrew and Prince Harry.
According to the report, Queen Camilla and Prince William are viewed by some insiders as advocates of that strategy. One source claimed William has long favored keeping distance between the monarchy and Prince Andrew's branch of the family. The insider alleged that Camilla and William "rarely see eye to eye but in this case he does agree with her and she's using it to her full advantage."
For Anne, however, the issue is reportedly personal as well as institutional. The Princess Royal has often been portrayed as protective of family members and committed to preserving the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II. According to the report, Anne believes her late mother "would not want to see her dear granddaughters mistreated this way."
The reported tensions also revive longstanding stories about the relationship between Anne and Camilla, dating back to the 1970s when both women moved within overlapping social circles that included Andrew Parker Bowles. While royal historians have often referenced that chapter of royal history, there is no official evidence that it continues to influence present-day family dynamics.
One insider nevertheless claimed, "They're very practised at throwing barbs at each other through pasted on smiles," adding, "They act friendly when all eyes are on them but their distaste for each other is an open secret and has been for so many years."
