White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is facing renewed scrutiny after a previously recorded podcast interview resurfaced online, reviving debate over the Trump administration's response to the Jeffrey Epstein files and prompting fresh criticism from opponents who accused her of dismissing a politically and emotionally charged issue.
The clip, which has circulated widely on X and amassed millions of views, shows Leavitt rejecting allegations surrounding President Donald Trump's connection to the Epstein files and accusing Democrats of manipulating public perception through selective disclosures. The comments originated from a November 2025 appearance on Miranda Devine's Pod Force One, a political podcast featuring members of the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers.
During the interview, Leavitt argued that the controversy surrounding the document releases was driven more by partisan politics than by evidence.
She described the episode as a "classic Washington hoax," asserting that Democrats and sympathetic media organizations were attempting to damage Trump politically rather than present the complete factual record.
According to Leavitt, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released redacted material without sufficient context, creating what she characterized as a misleading narrative about the president's past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein.
The White House has maintained that the complete, unredacted records paint a different picture. Administration officials have argued that the woman referenced in the documents had previously stated Trump "had done nothing wrong" and that her interactions with him had been friendly rather than improper.
Leavitt has also said the individual referenced in the documents was Virginia Giuffre, one of the most prominent survivors connected to the Epstein investigation. However, TIME reported that it could not independently verify whether Giuffre's name was the one redacted in the documents released by Democrats.
Trump and his allies have consistently denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, while Democratic lawmakers have continued pressing for broader public disclosure of investigative materials related to the late financier and convicted sex offender.
The resurfaced interview has generated strong reactions across social media, with critics arguing that Leavitt's characterization of the controversy minimizes the gravity of a case involving sex trafficking and abuse.
One X user wrote: "It wasnt a hoax until we discovered Trump's name and half his cabinets name was all over them. Has MAGA ever asked why Ghislaine is doing time for sex trafficking to no one."
Other reactions focused less on the political dispute and more on Leavitt's demeanor during the interview.
"Kids were raped and brutally abused and she is smiling," one user wrote, while another described her as a "deeply evil person."
