Republican Sen. John Curtis is calling for a Senate investigation into Donald Trump Jr.'s ties to a Russian oligarch linked to Vladimir Putin, following revelations that the businessman spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on Trump Jr.'s lavish Bahamas wedding celebrations.

"Another low, a Russian oligarch paid for a lavish wedding after-party for Donald Trump Jr., which to me just stinks. It's corruption, I don't like it," Curtis said.

The controversy erupted after ProPublica reported that Umar Kremlev funded expenses including a private-island rental, fireworks and event planning for Trump Jr.'s May wedding to Bettina Anderson.

Curtis is urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate both Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden, including whether presidential family members have benefited financially from their political connections.

Trump Jr. and his wife defended Kremlev's generosity, saying their friendship carried no political agenda. President Trump has also said his son would reimburse Kremlev.

The request follows a separate call by Democratic Rep. Jim Himes for an FBI investigation into potential counterintelligence risks surrounding Kremlev's payments.

Curtis wants lawmakers to establish the facts, examine existing ethics laws and determine whether reforms are necessary. His request is for an investigation, not a finding of wrongdoing.
