Alibaba continues to set the trails ablaze with its upcoming plan to bring its first ever "Super Brand Day" in the shopping capital of China, Shanghai.
According to a report, Alibaba will be working with the said municipality to launch a "Super Brand Day" event which will include several physical stores in Shanghai. This is on top of the hundreds of thousands of brands being promoted on Jack Ma's e-commerce website, Tmall.
These new developments bring more opportunities for Shanghai to expand its business portfolio in the retail department.
Citing a study conducted at the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University, China's prime investment capital is the leading frontier in the "development and sophistication" of the country's retail sector.
According to the findings, this is in part of the local government's initiative to promote innovation in terms of manufacturing, logistics, trade and other related services.
Alibaba's recent move on Shanghai further benefits the consumers as they get to be introduced to foreign brands.
Meanwhile, more and more global brands are looking at Shanghai's promising potentials in retail, which is why a lot of them prefer the city to launch their new products or open their stores.
In related news, Marriot International announced this week that it will join Alibaba's "Super Brand Day" which is already set to launch in the coming days.
As revealed in a report from Business Insider, this participation from a company belonging to the hospitality industry is the first of its kind.
"We are incredibly excited to partner with Tmall to bring our 30 distinctive brands and global travel experiences to Chinese consumers," Chief Sales and Marketing Officer in the Asia Pacific, Peggy Fang Roe, said.
"Through our joint venture with Alibaba, we have curated special offers, dining benefits, and travel experiences just for Tmall members who join Marriott's loyalty program. We are delighted to share Tmall's vision of providing extraordinary experiences for sophisticated and affluent Chinese travelers."
Much like the highly-anticipated Prime Day sale event from Amazon, Tmall's "Super Brand Day" promotes hundreds of thousands of brands, both local and foreign, to Chinese consumers.
In a span of 24 hours, consumers will get to enjoy promotional sales and special offers from participating brands in the Tmall ecommerce website.
Tmall is formerly known as Taobao Mall. Launched in April 2008, the Chinese-language website is owned and operated by the Alibaba Group. It is one of the most populated online retail platforms with the number of active members to reach 500 million this year.
