The rant in the mobile phone world today is the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which was unraveled recently. Huawei, one of the many brands trying to keep up with the Korean tech giant, was one of those keeping tabs and apparently threw a bit of shade on the phablet’s coming with the Huawei P20 Pro.

Huawei has been gaining ground with its wide array of handsets to date. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 getting its fair share of criticism, notably for lack of innovation as Android Authority singles out, Huawei took the opportunity to send feelers that the Mate 20 series will come with real upgrades.

And while most have yet to find out what Huawei would be bringing in for its Mate 20 series, it singled out the Huawei P20 Pro as an example for now. Launched in March 2018, the Chinese company singled out how the phone sported a 40 MP triple camera, a real upgrade that they consider would make a difference every day. For those who may not be aware, the P20 Pro also boasts of a great battery life, a fast face unlock and a whole lot cheaper, Tech Radar said.

As mentioned in a previous post, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 may or may not appeal to folks depending on the need. Some are still brand-conscious and this is expected to sway them into getting the latest phablet in the market.

The case is different for buyers who are looking for a device offering the latest technology at a reasonable price. Cost may not be much of a problem for most for as long as they see the notable changes. The Note 9 does have its share of improvements although critics feel that these are not enough to justify the high price range. In fact, some even see it as an incrementally improved Note 8 with a touch of the Samsung Galaxy S9/ S9 Plus.

That said, Huawei and other aspiring smartphone brands could use this lack of innovation as they term it, as a chance to boost their market share. But of course, they need to offer something different that will can back up the price of the device.

As far as the Huawei Mate 20 Series is concerned, everything remains a rumor. Among the potential specs, it may carry include a Kirin 980 SoC for the standard and Kirin 710 chipset for the Lite model. It is likely to sport a triple camera (made even stronger with Huawei’s tweet) and an in-display fingerprint scanner, Android Authority said in a separate post. While there are more suggestions, it would be best to take all of these lightly for now.
