Hong Kong mothers may feel all alone when they are left to look after their kids at home. But with the technology today and the emergence of social media, they will never feel they are on their own again. Thanks to Mark Zuckerberg's brainchild, these moms can join different groups that can help them gain new friends and learnings with just a single Facebook account.
The HK Hub listed 16 Facebook groups for mothers with English names that can cater to their different needs. Whether they want to be a part of a group with different nationalities or neighborhoods, or be friends with business-minded moms and ask for advice, there is a specific group that can help them.
Some of the most famous Facebook groups Hong Kong moms join in are HK Aussie Mums, German Mums in HK, Russian Mums in HK, Discovery Bay Mums and Dads, Sai Kung Mummies, and Southside Mums, per the South China Morning Post. Also, moms can join the groups HK Mumtrepreneurs, Prenatal and Postnatal in Hong Kong, Mums without Helpers, and HK Drinking Mums.
But the most known group of them all is the Hong Kong Moms, which already has 56,000 members. "We are a kind, thoughtful, passionate and resourceful group - and we are here to help each other," its introduction reads.
Hong Kong Moms is a culturally diverse group. So to keep it organized, its admins ask its members to respect its rules. Members should act with respect, honesty, empathy, and integrity. They can also speak their minds out, but avoid giving derogatory or negative comments. If what they are going to post is something their bosses will not approve, they should refrain from doing it. Lastly, it also has a warning that they are going to remove violators of these directives.
In a post by Motherly, it supports the claim that Facebook groups can help mothers in almost all aspects. If a mom posts something about her struggles with breastfeeding, she will receive a hundred advice from different mothers around the world. Some moms also share their reviews on food, places, restaurants, and shops among others.
Although Facebook groups are virtual, it helps moms to connect with other mothers and build a community to help one another. However, in every positive piece, there is always a negative side.
A Hong Kong mom member, who wants to keep her identity unknown, revealed some "non-mothers" join their group to see fights through Facebook comments caused by heated agreements. She said these fights are entertaining, so they are having fun to read and watch. There are also some moms who quickly judge and filling the comment section with criticisms, displaying rude behavior.
