This year marks the second year since Ubisoft last released a new installment to the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise. Considering the French video game publisher made it a tradition to release new installments annually, most were under the impression that the delay was due to the release of two titles in a short time

Hence, a safe forecast would be to see a new installment by 2019 since the year is heading towards the homestretch. Unfortunately, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot bared that the franchise will be skipping next year as well at Gamescom, Game Rant said.

Rather than release a new brand game, Guillemot said that they will instead support “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” with additional content updates. He hopes that through this ploy, the player base will be retained after the game launches on Oct. 5.

Curiously, “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” comes not long after “Assassin’s Creed Origins.” Guillemot adds that the reason for this is both games were developed simultaneously. Could this be the reason why the company has been refraining from release a fresh new installment?

While they did not stress the actual reason behind the change in frequency of game releases, the whole issue may be because of “Assassin’s Creed Unity,” a game that was launched four years ago. The game had many technical issues, something that proved costly. The issues placed the company in a bad light and Ubisoft needed to address the problems through numerous patches. Despite the buggy nature, DLC content was still offered to players who kept on playing the game.

Unfortunately, the poor performance of that installment carried on to “Assassin's Creed Syndicate” the following year, resulting in poor sales numbers. Though it was not singled out as the reason, the burden and damage that it caused could be the reason why Ubisoft is now following a conservative approach before officially releasing new game titles.

“Assassin’s Creed: Origins” entered the scene in 2017, a timely release that most welcomed with open arms. It came with new features that include the launch of timed events, a new game plus mode, and multiple DLC story expansions.

All this is expected to carry on when “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” comes out. One of the improvements said to be coming outside the features from the previous installment is seeing players making dialog choices. This should come in handy, especially for players who will try out the story mode – allowing them to shape how the story ends. It also includes a bigger map and players having the choice to play male or female. The game is all set to come out next month with versions for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Game Spot said.
