Donating a specific organ of your deceased family member is a difficult choice to make. Given that you have no idea if the person wants to have his organ donated, many people are still questioning the process of identifying potential and healthy donors. Just recently, news began to spread online as five people were affected with Hepatitis E Infection. Many blamed that the transplant was its cause. But, experts disagreed with this idea. They continued to promote organ transplant in Hong Kong.

Low Turnout On Kidney And Liver Donations

According to the South China Morning Post, a doctor continually promoted organ donations despite all rumors against it. The expert agreed that donating organs should still be pushed as it could help millions of people to live continuously. This statement was given as news reported five people being infected with a deadly virus after receiving an organ from a specific donor.

The doctor is hopeful that people will not be affected by the reports and that they will continuously help patients to prolong their lives. She continued to admit that death will increase if everyone would continue to be fearful of donating organs.

She then gave out reports that supported her previous claims about donations. She said that Hong Kong received the lowest turnout of organ donations this year. The hospital only received 33 kidney donation and 19 liver donations from January to June of 2018. This is a fifty percent decrease in the average donation made last year, which is 78 and 74 respectively.

Experts are still studying its cause as it could bring a drastic impact in the medical community of Hong Kong. They are looking at two possible reasons why people are not donating this year: the lack of information and the lack of staff members in the hospital. Experts agreed that it is hard to identify healthy and possible donors, which is why they needed staff members that are highly educated about the matter.

Patients Needing Organ Donation Increases

The doctor even explained that many people are still looking for donors today. In Hong Kong, 2,200 patients are waiting for a healthy kidney to be transplanted in their body while 74 are hoping that they would have new and healthy lives.

Meanwhile, experts agreed that they would have a further analysis as to what happened to the Hepatitis E infection. In a report posted by SCMP, doctors are looking for possibilities and readjustments to the process, like testing every organ, if it is fit for donation or not.
