The social networking giant Twitter is reportedly working on developing two new features that may change the chatting interface of the platform soon. Potential sources suggest that the features are named Presence and Threading. The features are currently under development, but according to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's briefings, these attributes may see the light of day soon over all the Twitter users interface.
Regarding the new features, Twitter's head of product management: Sara Haider stated in a tweet "hey Twitter. we've been playing with some rough features to make it feel more conversational here. presence and reply threading. still early and iterating on these ideas. thoughts?"
9to5Mac quoted that Presence is a feature that will work as a real-time indicator of the online presence of the users and their followers. This feature may resemble Facebook Messanger's online status indicator which shows green light beside the persons' name who is online at a particular timeline. While describing Presence Haider regarded this feature as a way "to signal specifically that you're online and looking for conversation."
While on the other hand, Threading will be more of a makeover of the comment section. TechRadar suggests that this will be a feature which would showcase the comments on a Tweet as more of a thread of replies to a message. Currently, the replies to a tweet look more like separate comments or even sometimes like mini tweets.
Haider showcased the features for the first time. She and Dorsey, however, stated that both Presence and Threading are in the prototype phase. They even asked or users' feedback before implementing it in reality. Some users recently raised concerns about security measures, as Twitter reportedly had an account purge initiative recently and identified and deleted approximately a million suspicious Twitter accounts per day, which were run by shady users or robots.
A user reportedly asked about the opt-in and opt-out options for the threading to safeguard one's personal privacy as he stated: "The reply threading looks promising and could be a big improvement as long as there's still a way to read a thread without interruption." Haider's reply to this statement was affirmative in nature as she added that Twitter "would definitely want you to have full control over sharing your presence."
Both the relative features may prove to be superlative in terms of usage in near future. However, Twitter authorities didn't specify any scheduled timeline for Presence and Threading to be seen in reality.
