Facebook recently saw a global interruption. The popular social media platform was disrupted on September 3rd, 2018, as users from various parts of the world reported an outage for some time. The outage, however, lasted for less than two hours. Facebook clarified this unusual pause in their service as a routine maintenance. However, no more official explanations were given for this temporary turmoil over the web.

According to The Business Times, Facebook users from various parts of the world reported about this brief inaccessibility of the website, over various online platforms. Many users even expressed their frustrations over Twitter. A superlative buzz was created within moments of this interruption. Many even feared about their privacy & security, and further, they expressed their concerns about their Facebook account being spammed or, even hacked, by any shady and suspicious user or source. The report was evident as certain similar instances held sometime before over various social media platforms.

The interruption took place on Monday, September 3, at around 21.00 GMT (approx, 5.00 AM on Tuesday in China), as per the reports of the actual issue available on downdetector.com website. The index on this site noted that the Facebook users of North America and Europe were specifically affected by this interruption. The outage of service lasted about an hour in some regions. While in the other areas, it lasted for a little less than one and a half hour.

NewsAsia quoted that different users witnessed different types o disruption during the phase. Some of the affected ones were absolutely unable to log in to their Facebook accounts. Whereas, others claimed that they were able to get the access to their Facebook handles but just in read-only mode. This means that they were able to see their profile interface and scroll through news feeds & updates, but they were unable to share a status or post something or message anyone through Facebook Messenger, during the interruption.

Some users reported seeing a message dubbing "Service Unavailable" as soon as they were trying to log into their Facebook accounts. While other received a long message from Facebook's end, stating: "Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes," "Thanks for your patience as we improve the site," the message concluded.

While Facebook stuck on its claims of networking maintenance as a cause of this outage, some tech experts reportedly analyzed this as Facebook's attempt to identify and thrash fake accounts and suspicious activities over the platform.
