Great news for "Fortnite" players! A new update patch has arrived and it contains a lot of improvements for the game.
Epic Games has released "Fortnite" version 5.40 to all platforms, adding a new item alongside many bug fixes and performance enhancements. It also brings with it a very important feature that players on the Android version will be grateful for: voice chat support for Android devices.
Games like "Fortnite" require good teamwork, which can only be achieved when the team is able to communicate well. Before this update, players on Android used to rely on other voice chat apps to provide the group communication necessary for them to win rounds, Android Police noted.
Now, with the built-in VOIP feature that v5.40 brings, players on Android won't need third-party voice chat apps anymore -- freeing more RAM and storage space on their devices as a result.
Support For More Devices...
Aside from the VOIP feature for Android, v5.40 also adds support for other devices, namely Motorola, HTC, and Sony Xperia devices. These devices were previously unsupported.
The Essential Phone, which Epic Games said also receives support in v5.40, has actually had the support it needed right from the start. 9to5Google speculates this could be due to the Android Pie update, or simply an improvement to the existing support given.
A New Event...
Version 5.40 introduces "High Stakes," a limited-time event where teams of four players duke it out while searching for special Jewels hidden in safes scattered across the map, then find a van for the Getaway win.
This event has a variety of rewards:
First, players will get 5000 XP for playing ten matches of the Getaway LTM;
Second, players get to unlock the "Suited Up" Spray by inflicting 500 damage on a player that has a Jewel;
Third, players will get to unlock the Cash Flow Contrail by picking up 5 Jewels in 5 different Getaway matches;
Lastly, after these three are accomplished, players will unlock the Crowbar Pickaxe.
During the High Stakes event, the Wildcard outfit will be available in the store.
A New Item...
A new item, the Grappler gun, is also included in v5.40. It latches itself onto anything it is shot at, and is very handy for when players want to move between different places quickly. This is particularly helpful when climbing tall areas.

Aside from these, "Fortnite" v5.40 also brings extra features. There's a new Horde Challenge featuring a new Harvester Ninja; bug fixes and improvements done to enhance the UI and, ultimately, the user experience; and some improvements done to some weapons and items.
