A landmark deal, one which would put Britain in direct contact with the Chinese government, has effectively shattered any chance of a deal between the countries. This happened after a Royal Navy warship sailing through the disputed South China Sea has complicated discussions of a deal.
Earlier, Beijing took the UK to task for 'reckless actions' involving the warship that sailed near the islands in the disputed South China Sea. China has informed the UK that they will take actions against what it called 'reckless' sailing; Newsweek reports that this included the scrapping of a deal, one which would be an interesting one, considering post-Brexit Britain is looking for new trade partners.
The HMS Albion, the British warship, was tailed by fighter jets from the mainland. Beijing also authorized the deployment of their own warship to tail the UK ship, which was en route to a stop all the way to Ho Chi Minh City, in a port in Vietnam. The Royal Navy warship is an amphibious assault ship, which last docked at Tokyo, at the Harumi Pier.
London and Beijing started talks about a potential deal once Britain has finalized its much-talked-about 'Brexit.' The deal, according to Japan Times, was a necessary gamble on the part of China. With the trade dispute, China is seeking new trade partners without problems; Britain, on the other hand, has been talking about seeking new trade partners and it has sent feelers to Chinese companies about this.
The trade, Express UK reports, was designated as 'free-trade'. That, however, was conditional on the situation that happened recently. This was seen in the statement in a local Chinese newspaper said that China's interests, when harmed, was a deal-breaker; any deals with any countries will be canceled as a result and as a consequence of that country's oversight, hence, the tariffs China placed on American Goods.
Beijing believes it is in the right, as the South China Sea-all of it is theirs by right. However, there are other countries claiming parts of the sea that is nearest to their territories. For instance, the Parcel Islands are a powder keg waiting to happen, with at least three claimants-China, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
