Fabricio Werdum was positive for trenbolone, the anabolic steroid and metabolite epitrenbolone, which was revealed on Tuesday by the US Anti-Doping Agency. This was after the out of competition urine test done on April 25, 2018. The suspension of Werdum started on May 22. It was also the date USADA suspended them provisionally for the very first time.

According to Forbes, the United States Anti-Doping (USADA) is the organization that oversees the anti-doping program of UFC. After knowing the result of the test was a failure, Werdum posted on Instagram:

"Hey guys, I got up this morning to the news that one of my urine samples from April tested positive for a prohibited substance. I am working with my team, the UFC and USADA to understand what happened."

He also expressed how he has always been careful about everything he takes. After all, he also supports a clean sport. Therefore, he promised to resolve the misunderstanding as soon as possible. All he hopes for is to be able to return to the octagon and do in UFC what he loves the most.

Fabricio Werdum Sept. 15 Fight Canceled

Unfortunately, the failed test knocked the ex-champ from headlining slot in the UFC Fight Night 136 fight card this coming weekend in Moscow, Russia. Werdum was supposed to face Aleksei Oliynyk on Sept. 15 fight card. But due to the recent events, he was replaced by Mark Hunt and the last match he had was in March 2018.

Alexander Volkov defeated Werdum during his last fight at the fourth round knock out. This ended the run of Werdum with two straight victories inside the Octagon. He will be 43-year-old when the suspension comes to an end.

Werdum is a former UFC heavyweight champion for two years and now, he will not be able to compete in the UFC until May 2020, ESPN reported. It was the first time in his career that the drug test failed.

All these incidents definitely have a major effect on the veteran heavyweight's career. He lost the UFC title in May 2016 during his first round knockout against Stipe Miocic. Since then, Werdum has been trying to work his way into the octagon to get the title back.
