Following the release of a short trailer video that featured "Big Hero 6," Square Enix has released a longer "Kingdom Hearts 3" trailer that showed more than just different worlds. It also gave details that would excite fans even more.
The trailer, posted on YouTube just recently, opens with a few cutscenes followed by gameplay footage. The gameplay scene is set in the Big Hero 6 world, where the Keyblade Hero 3 (Sora, Goofy and Donald) are joined by Hiro Hamada, Honey Lemon, Go Go Tomago, Wasabi No-Ginger, Fred and Baymax.
During the scenes, fans are treated to images of Sora's new skills, the Big Hero 6-inspired keyblade called "Nano Arms," and some footage showing how Baymax joins Sora in the fight against the heartless. Truly, it's something fans will surely watch out for.
More interesting than the gameplay footage and Baymax, however, are the scenes that tell more about the KH3 story.
According to the trailer, Sora and the others will search for Roxas, the original protagonist from the first "Kingdom Hearts" game. Their search will take them to different places and worlds which include a few famous Disney titles. Here are the confirmed places, according to IGN:
- Mount Olympus (from "Hercules")
- Twilight Town (from "Kingdom Hearts 2")
- Yen Sid's Tower (from KH2)
- Old Mansion (from KH2)
- Andy's House (from "Toy Story")
- Monster factory ("Monsters, Inc")
- The Caribbean (from "Pirates of the Caribbean")
- San Fransokyo (from "Big Hero 6")
- Arendelle (from "Frozen")
- Kingdom of Corona (from "Tangled")
As they travel through the worlds, Sora, Goofy and Donald will have their appearances changed to match where they currently are. They are made to look like three dimensional toys while they are in the Toy Story world, are dressed as pirates when they join Jack Sparrow's world, and are transformed into monsters as they travel the Monsters, Inc. factory.
While the new trailer seems to ask more questions than answer them, it does give a lot of reasons for players to look forward to the game once it releases in 2019.
First, the video showed several heroes from earlier installments. What's intriguing about that is that some of them appear to have embraced the darkness, the most surprising of which is Aqua. What happened? Can she be rescued?
Second, selfies are common nowadays and in the game world, it's not weird to encounter a hero who takes selfies. A short scene showed Sora taking a selfie with a heartless. Based on the details onscreen, it could simply be a mini-game. Or is it?
Lastly, a male character appears toward the end of the trailer. Based on visible details, it appears that Roxas has returned. Is he still a protagonist? Or has he embraced the darkness?
Excited? "Kingdom Hearts 3" is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 29, 2019.
