An in-depth evaluation of Apple's unpublished product range suggests that the AirPods 2 are perhaps the most anticipated gadget. The desire for an updated version of the smart in-ear headphones, which are big sellers for the company, seems pretty widespread.
We all hoped that Apple would reveal the new earbuds in its recent New York event, alongside a release date, finally, for the AirPower charging pad. However, this was not the case. On the other hand, I highly speculate that Apple wanted to focus on its three hero products, the new iPad Pro, the updated MacBook Air, and the latest Mac Mini.
We've seen lots of activity recently, including a leak which suggested that the next version could have more advanced elements inside, including wellness and biometric sensors. Moreover, we might find an upgraded chip which will make hands-free Siri a reality.
The wait might be over. But who knows? A new report from Forbes hints that the Smart Price indicates that a listing has appeared describing AirPods from Apple, with two model numbers (A2031 and A2032) have been going through Bluetooth Special Interest Group certification.
For the purposes of reference, the current AirPods have the model number A1523, A1722 and A1602 marked on the box, indicating left and right AirPods and charging case. From the Smart Price, I think they have now passed through this mandatory certification process. The listing indicates an upgrade to Bluetooth 5, which suggests the two new model numbers refer to a left and right earbud rather than the charging case.
We know that Bluetooth 5 makes for better range, better data broadcasting and more. It's also important for the Internet of Things compatibility. The latest iPhones have Bluetooth 5 compatibility, since the iPhone 8.
The new features also result in reduced power usage and better battery life as a result. Surprisingly, the listing names the product as AirPods, which is enough to whet our appetites.
Recently we saw the announcement for the wireless charging case for AirPods, the one that will work with the AirPower charging pad, some time ago, this listing also strongly suggests that it's upgraded earbuds that are being described.
However, for clarity purposes, none of this specifies any release dates. But the Bluetooth certification is usually a strong hint that it's ready to go on sale. This likely means AirPods 2 is imminent.
