InXile Entertainment's current success can definitely be attributed to their passion for games, but as a mid-sized game development company InXile can only go so far on their own. But recent changes may be setting up the American game development studio for a brighter future.

Fans may wonder what exactly InXile needs to change to up their game. Surprisingly, the Newport Beac-based game studio looks to be getting a bigger backer to get them where they want to go.

The official InXile Entertainment Youtube channel recently posted a video of InXile Entertainment founder and CEO Brian Fargo announcing the game development studio's acquisition by Microsoft. In the video, Fargo assures fans of the game development studio that Microsoft's acquisition is good for the company's future.

One of the primary factors that Fargo brings up about the acquisition is InXile's expanded access to better technology which can help the studio develop better games. For fans who are worried that Microsoft's acquisition may result in the compromise of InXile's video game development process, Fargo assures that Microsoft's acquisition is based on InXile's current strengths and identity.

But fans who are worried may have good reason to be sceptical of the acquisition. Best known for creating games with exceptional narrative value such as its 2014 comeback title "Wasteland 2" - the sequel to Brian Fargo's original 1988 "Wasteland" game - InXile's acquisition by Microsoft might be a significant factor to the studio's upcoming games.

With "Wasteland 3" looking towards getting a 2019 release date, fans can now only hope that Fargo's promise that Microsoft's acquisition will not result in executive meddling that could significantly change InXile's final game when it gets released a year from now. The worst possible scenario that fans can expect is a delay in development for the anticipated game.

But InXile Entertainment is not the only recent game development studio that Microsoft will be acquiring. According to TechCrunch, Obsidian Entertainment will be acquired by the tech giant alongside InXile Entertainment.

For video game enthusiasts, Obsidian Entertainment is best known as the game studio behind video game classics such as "Knights of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords" and "Pillars of Eternity." Obsidian is also well known for delivering high quality role-playing experiences similar to InXile Entertainment.

With Microsoft's recent acquisition of InXile Entertainment and Obsidian Entertainment, it looks like the tech giant is hoping to return to its glory days of being a significant video game publisher. Hopefully, InXile and Obsidian's passion and expertise - along with the in-house franchises they bring with them - is up to the challenge.
