Google recently launched its most awaited handsets of this year: Pixel 3 and 3 XL. During the unveiling in New York City, the company showed off a revolutionary image capturing attribute at comparatively low lights, dubbed as 'Night Sight' mode. The feature is finally making its way to the latest and previous Pixel handsets. The mode is now available with an update in Google Play Store as a modification to the Camera app of Pixel phones.
According to Android Police, Google has officially published a blog post where it stated that the Night Sight mode will be accessible to the latest editions of Pixel handsets. This means that 2018 launched Pixel 3 and 3 XL will have the feature in their respective camera apps.
Alongside these, the attribute will reportedly be rolling out to the 2016 Pixel and Pixel 2. However, the picture quality, clarity, and performance may vary from handset to handset. Potential sources suggested that the latest version of Pixel phones will provide better quality and experience in terms of Night Sight mode than the earlier Pixel handsets, as these boast most advanced hardware and processor.
The earlier Pixel smartphones also lack the advantages of optical image stabilization, which allows a user to click clear and stand still images even when he is moving with a relevant pace. Thus, these will have lesser exposure limits which will definitely affect the clarity level of the captured pictures. GSMArena got the opportunity to test the 'Night Sight' mode.
Upon its experience, it stated that the Camera app of Pixel handsets works relatively slower with 'Night Sight' than in normal mode. While Night Sight mode is kept activated, the camera detects the motion of hands and adjusts the shutter speed and captures multiple exposure shots at a stack. The stacking is mainly made by the camera app to select the best and accurate shot in the lowest possible availability of light.
"Night Sight shots have significantly better exposure but without the typical high ISO noise," as per a claim by the source. However, if a user sets his Pixel smartphone in a tripod and tries to click the best shots out of any area, then he can expect relatively longer exposures to attempting to reduce the noise. The hand-held capturing of snaps with the help of Night Sight mode is shorter as it applies techniques to detect hand motion. The mode is now live and users can download the update from the Play Store.
