Rumors about Sony's next generation Playstation console seem to point towards a long wait before seeing the light of day. But when an employee for one of the biggest game companies in the industry makes the mistake of talking about his next-gen project, the official announcement of the PS5 does not seem that far off.

According to ComicBook, an employee connected to Square Enix recently overlooked the implications of indicating his current next-gen projects on LinkedIn. Tomohiro Tokoro, a 3D character artist for Luminous Productions - an organization under the Square Enix Group - indicated "New AAA Title for PS5" as one of his current projects for the gaming behemoth. The 3D artist also lists experience in multiple "Final Fantasy 15" projects and an untitled mobile game for the China market.

While Tokoro's LinkedIn profile has since been updated to omit the PS5 project leak, the update was documented by Resetera user nolifebr. While information about a project for the PS5 being endorsed by an industry giant is exciting news, ComicBook does points out that Square Enix is hardly the first game studio to look towards the PS5 for development.

The publication cites Bethesda Softworks director, Todd Howard, for his vision of the studio's upcoming games, "Starfield" and "The Elder Scrolls VI." Howard's Electronic Entertainment Expo presentation came with the expectation that both future Bethesda games will be tooled for the next generation of gaming devices such as the PS5.

In addition to Bethesda Softworks, there are other developers who have also mentioned developing their current projects with the PS5 in mind. IGN has compiled some of the more high profile cases of developers explicitly stating that their upcoming video games are being developed to hopefully ride the next generation PS5 and its competitors' introduction.

In addition, IGN acknowledges that the anticipation for for the PS5 is almost palpable as aside from the small slip by Tokoro, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has already confirmed that the future next generation console is currently in development. While Sony has yet to officialize that the next generation console will be officially named the PS5, fans of the gaming console can only see the logical naming convention following a console named the PS4.

With a whole stable of top-billed game development studios going public about their efforts to publish on next generation consoles such as the PS5, 2019 will be an important year in console gaming. Fans can only hope that Sony can be more public about the PS5's development and release date when the next year comes.
