Digital Extremes' growingly popular space shooter just released its latest incarnation on the Nintendo Switch and it looks like reviewers are happy with its first foray into a mobile platform. But fans of "Warframe" may be wondering if the game is worth the digital storage space on the Nintendo Switch.
Gamespot's review of "Warframe" for the Nintendo Switch glows with an appreciation for the polish that Digital Extremes, and Panic Button - a company best known for its Nintendo Switch port of "Rocket League," - have put into the game. The publication's main takeaway from the "Warframe" experience on the Nintendo Switch is the impressive amount of quality that was retained despite the port into a smaller, less powerful platform.
The version of "Warframe" for the Nintendo Switch is currently based on the summer PC build and will not yet include the latest "Fortuna" update - an expansion that adds a second open-world location based on Venus. But according to Kotaku, fans can expect the game to be caught up with updates for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game by 2019.
While the fact that Digital Extremes is dedicated to keeping "Warframe" on the Nintendo Switch nearly concurrent with its other versions is impressive, the Switch port does have major visual differences from its older cousins. Gamespot notes that the Nintendo Switch version of "Warframe" is currently locked at 30 frames per second compared to the higher 60 frames per second that the game's other versions run.
The publication also notes that there is a higher tendency for the Nintendo Switch version of "Warframe" to have performance drops compared to its console and PC cousins when multiple players use their abilities at the same time. While the differences in the graphics quality may seem significant, Gamespot does point out that it does not take away from the unique experience that "Warframe" offers.
Fans of "Warframe" looking forward to enjoying the game on the Nintendo Switch should know that the mobile version of the game does not offer cross-platform play between "Warframe" versions on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Fortunately - as per Kotaku - "Warframe" gamers will still be able to migrate their PC accounts to the Nintendo Switch version of the game, effectively allowing them to continue their progress on the new platform.
Unfortunately, the option to migrate an account to the Nintendo Switch is not available for console "Warframe" players. For those looking forward to getting their hands on "Warframe" for the Nintendo Switch, the game will be available for download from the Nintendo Switch store by today, Nov. 20.
