Nvidia's latest video card technology is keeping enthusiasts and experts on their toes as rumors of the performance of the unreleased RTX cards have leaked out in public. Surprisingly, the leaked benchmark for the RTX 2060 is disappointing some fans of the video card manufacturer, but it seems that there could be a good reason for the leaked benchmark's underwhelming performance.

Tom's Hardware was the first site to take notice of the performance benchmark leak in the "Final Fantasy XV" benchmark database which included the performance benchmarks for the RTX 2060. The publication notes that this is not the first time that a yet to be released graphics card was featured for the popular video game's database.

People who are following the RTX 2060's leaked benchmarks may be worried that the yet to be released Nvidia video card may not be performing within expected ranges. The RTX 2060 is shown to be coming in just slightly below the GTX 1070's performance - a considerable issue considering that the performance of the RTX 2070 was able to surpass the GTX 1080 by a considerable margin.

But tech site Appuals gives a second perspective on the lower performance benchmark of the RTX 2060. Appuals' does note that the performance of the RTX 2060 for the "Final Fantasy XV" benchmark does seem unrealistic due to being unable to surpass the GTX 1070's performance threshold. In addition, the publication points to the potential factor that the naming convention for the supposed RTX 2060 is simply being reported incorrectly as an earlier leak predicts that the RTX 2060 will be launching next year without ray tracing capabilities.

According to the publication, the discrepancy in the RTX 2060's performance could be attributed to the fact that it could be Nvidia's mobile model - the Max-Q line - for the anticipated video card. This could explain the large discrepancy in expected performance for the RTX 2060 but another possibility is also brought into mind by the publication.

Considering that Nvidia's RTX models are currently reported as base models in the benchmarks, it could be possible that Nvidia is also planning to release model stages for the RTX 2060 and its cousins similar to the existence of TI models for the GTX 1000s series. The publication does note that considering the unreleased state of the RTX 2060 and similar video cards, an official confirmation from Nvidia would definitely clarify why the "Final Fantasy XV" benchmarks show a low RTX 2060 performance.
