Excitement for Sony's next-generation console is at an all-time high with the lack of information regarding the PlayStation 5 during 2018's biggest gaming events driving more speculation and anticipation. Sony has already mentioned that their next generation console is in the works but the company has been tight-lipped about the future leading to a lot of unverified information populating the internet.
Recently, Russian tech blog Rozetked posted a potential leak containing photos of what was claimed to be a PlayStation 5 prototype. While Rozetked has a reputation for being fairly accurate with its exposés, it seems that the blog has made a mistake taking their anonymous source for the supposed PlayStation 5 prototype seriously.
The original leak posted by Rozetked includes a collection of other rumors that the supposed PlayStation 5 prototype would include an eight-core Ryzen chip with Zen+ architecture and a graphics processor with Vega architecture as its processor. Rozetked also claims that the PlayStation 5 will allow gamers to experience 4k video at 60 frames per second. Unfortunately, the photos that come with the PlayStation 5 claims are fake. Rozetked has since updated their post with the news that the supposedly leaked photos are not a PlayStation 5 prototype.
Techno Buffalo notes that one of the giveaways that the PlayStation 5 prototype was fake was the fact that the device featured in the photos seemed too polished for a device supposedly in the early stages of development. In addition, the publication notes (via Kotaku) that many game developers have yet to hear about the PlayStation 5 being used for next-generation development within their own companies.
Still, there is hope for those waiting on news about the PlayStation 5 as earlier leaks point towards very specific video game developers having some access to Sony's next generation platform. The recent LinkedIn profile leak by a Square Enix character designer still confirms that Sony is already working closely with certain video game companies to develop next-generation titles for the rumored PlayStation 5.
With Sony confirming that they will not be attending the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2019, fans looking forward to news about the PlayStation 5 are now more despondent. While Sony may have its own plans to unveil its future road-maps for 2019, Techno Buffalo notes that the company could easily be planning for a more grand return in 2020 along with an official announcement for the PlayStation 5.
