The "Fortnite" gaming community may easily get excited about news regarding the upcoming "Fortnite Season 7" but it does not mean that it is a community that can easily be fooled. As a recent leak claim came out earlier this week, "Fortnite" fans showed how they can be suspicious of any inauthentic information claiming to be an official leak.
A "Fortnite Season 7" trailer was recently posted on the "Fortnite" subreddit by Reddit user u/FortniteLeakInfo. The post claims that the video - which seemed to have been taken using a mobile device while the trailer was playing on a laptop - is a leak for the upcoming "Fortnite Season 7."
"Fortnite" Redditors were hesitant to believe that the "Fortnite Season 7" trailer was legitimate with certain users commenting that the trailer's cinematic quality was not up to par with Epic Game's trailers for the previous seasons. Reddit user u/SomaProtagonist points out specific details which strengthen the argument that the "Fortnite Season 7" leak was fake.
Some of the key points include the posting Reddit account's young age which does not make the account a credible leaker. In addition, u/SomaProtagonist mentions that the "Fortnite Season 7" trailer's plot does not make sense in comparison to the current meta-plot for "Fortnite." Some of the key indicators include the character Calamity still being featured in her first version appearance despite the story progression.
The "Fortnite" fan-site FortniteIntel concurs with the "Fortnite" community's consensus that the supposed "Fortnite Season 7" trailer leak is fake. In addition to the sub-par quality of the trailer and its animations, the fan-site notes that one of the scenes in the "Fortnite Season 7" trailer includes a publicly accessible asset for the game development platform, Unity3D.
FortniteIntel also points out that the supposed "Fortnite Season 7" trailer has many quality issues that show it was an amateurish attempt to fool the community. This includes the placement of the age-rating logo at the bottom right of the screen which seems to have been placed in the video to simply bolster its authenticity.
The video you're referring to is indeed fan made and not an official trailer. — Sean Hamilton (@MrPopoTFS) December 2, 2018
The "Fortnite" community's suspicion for the "Fortnite Season 7" trailer was finally confirmed when "Fortnite" community coordinator for Epic Games, Sean Hamilton, confirmed that the trailer was fanmade. Sean Hamilton confirmed that the trailer was fake in response to a fan asking about the posted content's authenticity.
