Jason Momoa, who plays Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, finally puts an end to speculations about his character's return in the final installment. The actor may have broken a few fans' hearts when he confirmed that he is not in Game of Thrones Season 8.

Momoa addressed the never-ending speculations about Khal Drogo's supposed resurrection in Game of Thrones Season 8 in a recent interview with Digital Spy about his latest DC film Aquaman. The actor urged fans to let his character go as he is never coming back from the dead.

"Yeah... he's not coming back. Nine years now, let him go."

The actor revealed that he had not filmed any scenes for Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones Season 8. Not a single one, not even a flashback or the much-talked-about miraculous resurrection. Momoa even agreed that Khal Drogo's death in Season 1 was called for given that the character only had short screen time.

"It'd be a very short series. Two seasons, he crosses the water and kills everyone. It's no good if he comes back."

To recap, the Dothraki warrior succumbed to death from an infected battle wound in Season 1 of Game of Thrones. Before his demise, his then-wife Daenerys Targaryen sacrificed their unborn child in a spell to save his life. The spell worked, but it left him in a vegetative state, which prompted the Mother of Dragons to kill him out of mercy by smothering him with a pillow.

The last time fans saw Khal Drogo was in Daenerys' vision while in Qarth in Game of Thrones Season 2. She saw him and their stillborn son alive and well. Fans took this vision as a hint that Momoa is reprising Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones Season 8.

Likewise, the actor also fuelled rumors about his return in the series. Momoa spent time in Ireland where Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and the rest of the cast were filming the series finale. He even spent time with them and shared pictures of their reunion on social media. Momoa had since clarified that he was only there to catch up with his friends, although his explanation didn't stop the rumors of a possible Khal Drogo return in Game of Thrones Season 8.

Regardless, fans will find out for sure if Khal Drogo is in Game of Thrones Season 8 when the series returns to HBO in April 2019. Until then, Momoa's confirmation can be taken in hindsight.
