Valve's latest update to "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" has breathed new life into the six-year-old game. But even with the new look and ways to play the game, it seems the video game conglomerate has planted clues to return to its roots of developing games if rumors are true.
PC Gamer notes that some "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" players who have been enjoying the latest battle royale game mode update have spotted some particularly telling easter eggs in the new "Black Site" map. The publication highlights a pretty straightforward shout out to Valve's first-person puzzle game, "Portal."
According to the publication, players who are able to enter a specific room at the eastern edge of the Danger Zone will find a computer that will eventually emit a strange broadcast if a player is able to stay within its vicinity for a few minutes. The strange broadcast was first documented by Youtube user snaileny which was also eventually cracked by "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players on Reddit.
Reddit user u/GetSomeGyros was able to crack the strange broadcast's meaning. According to the "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" player, the broadcast can be translated into the statement "This was a triumph. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS." The statement is directly taken from the first few lines of the song, "Stay Alive," the companion song that plays during the end credits of Valve's "Portal" game.
But the strange broadcast and its decryption are not the only aspects of the new "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" map that players are reading into. Like other Reddit users, u/birkir has also delved into the details of the new "Black Site" map, looking for patterns and hidden gems that could hold information that could be related to Valve's other franchises outside of "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive."
If the rumors are true as many "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" players are speculating, Valve could be planning to release a project sometime soon and leaving the game's marketing to the players the best way the company knows best. If not, the "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" easter eggs seem particularly elaborate ways of adding flavor to the game's latest map and game mode and seems to have entertained its players nonetheless.
"Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" fans who are hoping that Valve's easter eggs do turn out to be teasers for some secret project in the works will have to wait for quite a bit to see considering the almost glacial speed that the company operates when it comes to its own franchises. Hopefully, when the project is official, fans will be able to enjoy the effort they spent cracking "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's" mysteries.
