Activision is losing one of its top executives this week as Sledgehammer Studios co-founder, Glen Schofield, announced his departure from the video game publisher.

Co-founding Sledgehammer Studios alongside Michael Condrey, Glen Schofield is known as the creator of the recently defunct "Dead Space" Electronic Arts franchise. Schofield has also been at the helm of development for a significant number of Activision titles such as "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" and "Call of Duty: WWII" since Sledgehammer Studios' acquisition by the video game publishing giant.

Schofield posted his farewells to fans and colleagues on Twitter. The game development executive expressed his pride in the game development work he has done under Activision but does not regret his decision to leave. According to Schofield, he is looking forward to new experiences beyond the "Call of Duty" franchise that Sledgehammer has been working on for Activision since their initial full work on "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare."

Glen Schofield's departure from Activision is not immediate as he has until the end of December to finalize his exit. While fans may be worried that the veteran game developer may be leaving the industry, Schofield does mention that his departure from Activision is not a retirement and he will simply be taking a break after the official end of his employment with Activision.

Gamespot was able to ask Schofield about the details of his plans after working for Activision. The publication notes that Schofield still expects to come back to the game development industry after his hiatus. Glen Schofield was quoted by the publication as having "a couple good games" left to make and is currently taking his time to find his next gig after his period of rest.

As of Glen Schofield's announcement to depart from Activision, Michael Condrey is still currently connected with the video game publisher. Schofield did not elaborate if his decision to leave Activision is due to some sort of internal pressure or conflict within the organization. The game executive simply emphasized that he needed a change of pace.

Glen Schofield's decision to announce his departure comes just after a few months since he was moved from Sledgehammer Studios to Activision internal to oversee other Activision projects from an executive position. As IGN reported earlier this year, Schofield's departure from Sledgehammer Studios was also in tandem with co-founder Michael Condrey being moved into an executive position within Activision. Aaron Halon had replaced the two as head of Sledgehammer Studios after their departure.
