The world of Graphics Units has long been dominated by two of the major tech makers for a long time now. Nvidia and AMD have been ruling this space of technology for the past decades with their full glory. Both of them have been in superlative rivalry against each other as well. However, this traditional rivalry may increase a bit more with another potential player, namely Intel, is looking forward to entering this sphere.
Rumors and speculations have long been flourishing as clouds over the sky of GPU world. Now it is official as the confirmation came straight from the company's social media handle. Recently an update was published on the official Intel News account which briefed that Intel is working on its first ever GPU and it will roll out sometime in 2020. The tweet read: "Intel's first discrete GPU coming in 2020." The insight has been relevant as according to TechEngage, Intel has hired a number of GPU specialists.
It is not yet clear whether Intel will showcase its first ever GPU unit before 2020. But a few potential sources like TechRadar have suggested that the company may announce the graphics chip in the next edition of Consumer Electronics Show (CES) which is scheduled to be held from January 8, 2019, to January 12, 2019.
Nvidia and AMD are having a tough fight with their latest GPUs. The former has moved to its next generation of graphics units: RTX. Nvidia GeForce 2080 and 2080 Ti have already turned into two of the fan favorite GPUs. AMD is also not willing to leave any space to Nvidia in the global market. Recently, both the company have engaged in a competitive pricing war.
To boost up its sales and crush Nvidia's relative popularity, AMD has slashed the costing of its high-end GPUs to a spectacular extent. Speaking of the price index, Intel has been more careful and cautious than all of its potential rivals. While AMD shelved its top CPUs at a comparatively high price index range, Intel always stuck to a reasonable and even cheaper cost range for all its processing units and chipsets.
Intel's range of products has thus been more affordable to global customers. Therefore, it is expected that Intel will keep up with its tradition and will price tag its first GPU at a reasonable range unlike those of Nvidia and AMD. Other details about the GPU is still a mystery.
