The release of the Game of Thrones Season 8 teaser trailer had fans sharing several speculations about how the story plays out. One scene in the preview supposedly hints at the death of Jaime Lannister.

The first seven seasons of the series have been full of challenges for Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), but he remained steadfast and returned home to Kings Landing in one piece. There seems to be no battle that he can tackle where he comes out victorious in a way.

However, this changes in the final installment according to fans. The Game of Thrones Season 8 teaser trailer supposedly confirmed the long-held speculation that Jaime dies in the worst battle of all-- the battle between the living and the undead. This is hinted in one particular scene in the preview that shows the fall of Kings Landing.

In the preview, figures representing the Seven Kingdoms are laid out on a large table map of Westeros. One figure is that of a golden lion, which represents the House Lannister. According to fans, the lion engulfed in flames does not mean that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her dragons will eventually rain fire on Kings Landing. It does not represent the whole of Kings Landing falling to the ground in ashes but on one person only. Instead, it supposedly symbolizes Jaime Lannister's death.

Fans have their theories that Jaime is not called the "Kingslayer" for nothing and not because he killed the "Mad King" Aerys Targaryen. Instead, his moniker plays a key role in the anticipated Night King battle. Viewers believe that he is destined to kill the Night King, the leader of the White Walkers, in Game of Thrones Season 8.

One fan claimed that it is "pretty obvious" that the task to defeat the Night King falls on the eldest son of Tywin Lannister. Meanwhile, another shared that Jaime kills the Night King using the Valryian steel arrow Gendry reforged from his sword.

However, Jaime also sacrifices his life in the aftermath of the battle. This speculation seems to fuel a previous report that Coster-Waldau plays the character in all six episodes of Game of Thrones Season 8 contrary to the rumored four episode-appearances only. Leaked court documents confirmed that the actor was paid for all episodes, which could mean that Jaime could be killed off in the finale.

Regardless, anything can happen in the series. Fans will have to wait and see if Jaime lives or dies and kills the Night King when Game of Thrones Season 8 returns to HBO in April 2019.
