From a consumer standpoint, it looks like the influx of electric-driven vehicles will not slow down anytime soon. As the industry finally embraces an environmentally-friendly approach, carmakers are eager to showcase what is in store in the near future. Earlier this year, Infiniti unveiled the Q Inspiration, a battery-powered sedan. Now, it looks like the marque is teasing an electric vehicle (EV) crossover that will make its debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.
Reports claim that smaller model targets the same market that other models such as the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S occupy. Leaks and industry insider information already teases several electric-powered crossover designs in the works from various brands. A report from Auto Week suggests that the automobile expo early next year would be an ideal place to introduce the new vehicle.
According to Karim Habib, the executive design director of Infiniti, "the concept car we will show in Detroit is the beginning of a new era," for the manufacturer. Moreover, it is purportedly "an illustration of where we want to go with the brand," stated Habib. He also went to highlight that battery-powered vehicle systems and other innovative technology related to EVs will serve as an inspiration for future projects.
It was also noted that the company plans to offer "e-power" models, which are essentially those with hybrid engines. Nevertheless, just like other major automakers, there are hints of a rework in line to replace the entire lineup with electric motor technology moving forward. Sources likewise pointed out that the planned release date of the two EV concepts will mark the thirtieth anniversary of Nissan's luxury label.
A report from Performance Drive claims that Infiniti intends to replace all of its fuel-running models and go electric in 2021. The new vehicles will reportedly feature unique exterior designs as well as comfortable interiors. Since electric powertrains are configured differently and optimize space, future concepts will flaunt lounge-like cabins with great style, which is expected from the brand.
Insiders speculate that a preview of the new crossover EV from Infiniti might be available before its official unveiling next year. Meanwhile, in recent news, Porsche and BMW announced a new charging standard that will benefit electric vehicles in the future. Unlike existing platforms that require longer cycles to refill the batteries, the FastCharge system apparently add another 62 miles within a span of three minutes. The new 450kW charging stations will soon become available in other parts of Europe.
