Some Chinese companies are showing their support to Huawei Company following the recent arrest of Sabrina Meng, the Chief Financial Officer of the smartphone giant, earlier this month. Now, a tourist park in China is also showing its support to the tech company by offering free entry to every Huawei phone user.
The Shennong Mountain Scenic Park in the central province of Henan allows tourists to get a waiver on the 65 Yuan ($9.40) entrance fee as long as they own a Huawei smartphone. The free entrance will start this week until December 29, the South China Morning Post reported.
The notice was published on the official WeChat account last Saturday, but it has caused controversy to the Chinese public. The notice indicates tourists should present their Huawei or Honor phone at the door, they should follow the official WeChat account of the park, and then they will get their free entry. Tourists can shoot grand photos on the mountain using the smartphone from the company.
"We wish friends around the world who support Huawei success and bliss," the notice also said.
This is the latest move declaring support for Huawei following the arrest of Meng in Canada on December 1 - at the request of US authorities. The park's offer has been questioned by several Chinese social media users, asking whether the move was by the law and if it had discriminated other tourists of the park.
But, a park's staff member confirmed the offer was not illegal, and they are sacrificing their profits just to provide benefits to the public.
The local tourism complaint hotline in Jiaozuo, Henan is also receiving some complaints regarding the park's offer. A staff member said the tourist board never encountered such incidents before and they are now consulting a legal expert.
She said their expert thinks the offer isn't unfair as it's a promotional policy and it does not harm the benefits of other tourists. Although buying a ticket is a normal practice, they believe the part isn't harming anyone, and it only offers a discount for a few.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time a Chinese company showed its support for Huawei amid tensions between the US and China over Meng's case. For instance, Shenzhen-based LCD maker Menpad - one of Huawei's suppliers - announced on its official website last Monday that it would fine employees buying an Apple iPhone. It also said it would stop buying products from American companies including cars, office equipment, and computes, and it would reward staff buying Huawei of ZTE phone by giving a 15 percent subsidy.
