It is a brand new year and “Pokemon Go” players are eager to see what Niantic has up its sleeve. Most know that each month comes with new activities and goodies. The latest word is that there will be two new Legendaries coming back to make the augmented reality game more interesting.

All eyes are on the Pokemon Go January Field Research, meaning a new set of tasks looming over the horizon. According to Game Spot, players who are able to complete enough tasks to achieve a Research Breakthrough may get the chance to encounter some Legendary Pokemon that may possibly be Ho-Oh and Lugia.

For those who may be unaware, both Legendaries appeared briefly at a special Raid weekend event in December. They were part of the Pokemon Gold and Silver cover monsters, and will now join other Legendaries such as Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Ho-Oh and Lugia appeared for a limited time and left on Dec. 17, 2018.

Hence, the first thing that Pokemon Go players are likely to do from here on is to spin the Photo Disc found at Poke Stops to see if they are lucky enough to get a Field Research task. A player will need to earn a stamp for the first Field Research task he completes each day. One a player is able to collect seven stamps, such will lead to a Research Breakthrough.

Ho-Oh and Lugia are not the only Legendary Pokemon to look forward to. There is also Heatran who is also available. The Gen 4 Legendary made its debut as a Raid boss last month, taking over from Cresselia. He is expected to stick around until Jan. 15.

Augmented reality players can also look forward to Pokemon Go’s first Community Day for 2019. All this goes down on Jan. 12 where Totodile will be the final Gen 2 starter Pokemon to be featured.

Although both Legendary Pokemon is something to look forward to, Game Rant adds that there will be shiny variants also coming out. This should spur up further interest among players who regularly compete in raids and add a rare Pokemon to their inventory.

The Pokemon Go Field Research for January is likely to carry on until February since these are the least active months for the augmented reality game. It remains to be seen if March will be different. Niantic could be cooking up something more for 2019, more goodies and Pokemon for hooked augmented reality gamers.
