Robert Downey Jr. may have been ahead of everyone else when it came to knowing the fate of the heroes in Avengers: Endgame. The actor may have hinted at the characters' mission in the film in an old interview.

Everyone is still reeling from the aftermath of the Thanos snap in Avengers: Infinity War and wondering how the survivors can move one now with almost everyone dead. The future seems bleak with Tony Stark left hopelessly floating in space and Captain America and Black Widow at a loss of how they can bring back the decimated heroes.

Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man, may have known all along what the Avengers would be up against and how they would come out of the situation. The actor may have hinted at the Avengers: Endgame plot in an old press interview before the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron

A video of the interview is now making the rounds online, and fans are nitpicking the actor's statements for any clue that could point at what happens in the film. In the interview, Downey Jr. talked about what his character would be doing in the Ultron movie. Stark would be working on the "endgame," which is "working on a system" that will give the Avengers the chance to live normal lives. This system will make the heroes not "have to do what they've been doing all along."

In the film, Stark made the Ultron on behalf of the Avengers. He engineered the A.I. to fight against alien threats. He created Ultron to make the lives of the heroes easier, but the robot turned against the team instead.

Now fans are connecting the dots about Downey Jr.'s statement and the events in the film. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man and Captain America disagree on how to defeat Ultron and the latter asserts that it is enough just to fight, and maybe even die together trying.

Perhaps the endgame in the final Phase 3 film is the defeat of Thanos. With the Mad Titan gone, the Avengers can live normal lives as Stark wanted, when he initially created Ultron to defeat threats from outer space.

Along with the downfall of Thanos might also be the demise of Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man. With Downey Jr. and Evans' Marvel contract up after Avengers: Endgame, it is not hard to believe that these two heroes would not return.
