Any of the two of the most important characters in Game of Thrones face a grim fate in Season 8 if an Easter Egg in Season 2 is anything to go by. Sansa Stark or Daenerys Targaryen could face their doom in the hands of Jon Snow.
There is no shortage of character deaths in the Game of Thrones history, from minor to major characters. The past seasons proved to it that no characters' fate is sealed or predetermined and that anyone can die at any moment. This is what happened to Stannis Baratheon, who trusted the Red Witch Melisandre, in his quest to become king of The Seven Kingdoms. Stannis did as the priestess asked, even as much as sacrificing his only daughter, in the false hope that he would one day become king of Westeros.
Melisandre (Carice van Houten) made him believe in the prophecy of the Lord of the Light about his reign as ruler of Kings Landing. However, Stannis died even before the prophecy can be fulfilled and this brought a fan to question whether the vision was indeed for Stannis or someone else. Melisandre talked about this prophecy in Season 2 of Game of Thrones, where she talked about "the son of fire" as being a "warrior of blood" who will "sweep aside" a pretender and betray those who worked for him and those he once held dear.
Reddit user u/irishpisano pointed out that the prophecy was not about Stannis. Instead, it is about Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and his fate in Game of Thrones Season 8. Some of the words in the prophecy already happened, including Jon's betrayal of his men in the Night's Watch. He also betrayed his family by bending the knee to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) for the sake of defeating the Night King.
The fan added that the "pretender" could be referring to Sansa or Daenerys, although it is likely that Jon will sweep aside the Mother of Dragons. After all, he is next in line to rule Westeros and not Daenerys or Cersei.
The most obvious reference is that Jon is the true heir to the Iron Throne since he is a Targaryen. He is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, which makes him the "son of fire" and "warrior of blood" in Melisandre's vision. Interestingly, "Fire and Blood" chronicles the history of the House Targaryen in George R.R. Martin's book. Melisandre's prophecy could be, after all, about Jon Snow's fate as the true ruler of Westeros and the fall of Daenerys in Game of Thrones Season 8.
