The $16.2 million Sydney penthouse owned by China's youngest female billionaire Zetian Zhang is now off the market after finally being sold for $13.5 million. The sale price comes at a huge discount from when it was purchased brand new in 2015.
Initially, the three-level property overlooking the Sydney harbor was listed on the market in June 2017 for $18 million but this was lowered to $15 million in early 2018. The 598-square meter penthouse is located at the 28th floor of the Stamford Residences and boasts interiors designed by Thomas Hamel & Associates, writes the South China Morning Post. It was built in 2012 by the Kann Finch Group. It was a gift by Zhang's husband JD.com chief executive Richard Qiangdong Liu six months before they married in 2015.
An article by Domain reveals that at the time the property was purchased by Liu for Zhang, Liu lived at a mansion in Vaucluse, which was then sold in December 2018 for $38.8 million.
The same report also shows that Sotheby's Richard Shalhoub sold the Stamford penthouse unit to hotel tycoon Ramy Arnaout and wife Nadia. Shalhoub had been secretive about the buyers' identities but records had shown that it was the couple who made the purchase. Arnaout's development and hospitality holdings include the famous Iris Capital.
In addition to having a stunning view of the harbor, the property features floor to ceiling windows, a 240-degree panoramic view of the Blue Mountains, a rooftop terrace (in addition to other terraces on the first and second levels), and an opulent, sweeping staircase among others. It is also just a few steps away from the Sydney Opera House.
The 25-year-old Zhang Zetian, also called Nancy, has a net worth of around $11.6 billion. Aside from being a businesswoman, she is also known on social media via her Sina Weibo and Instagram accounts. Richard Qiangdong Liu has a net worth of $12.7 billion. She met him in the United States while studying at Barnard College and then got married after dating for three years. They have a 2-year-old daughter.
