Nokia says hello once again to the U.S. and this time without the Google's Android One.
Nokia is coming back to the Northern American region as HMD, Nokia branded smartphones and feature phones creator from Finland expands its presence to this side of the globe to refresh the American's consciousness on the Nokia brand.
The Tech Radar hints that three Nokia phones will be out in the U.S. partnering with three big names in the telecommunication industry. Nokia 2.1 (international variant) will be available under the Rogers Wireless in Canada, Nokia 2V(a variation of the international Nokia 2.1) will be made available through Verizon and the Nokia 3.1 Plus (a variation of the international model, which shares the same name) will be made available through Cricket Wireless.
There is still no word with regards to the individual pricing of the Nokia phones to be brought in the U.S. market but HMD assures that this is not the end of their partnership on this side of the Atlantic. Angelone stated that this is just an initial step and a big step into the U.S. market.
HMD believes that Nokia can succeed well in the U.S. Maurizio Angelone, Americas at HMD Global vice president said that Northern America is a space where Nokia can deliver strong value for the customers.
Maurizio believed that there was a space in the U.S. value segment that needed consumer service. Space is where thirty percent of the Northern American consumers buy.
The U.S. market did not actually forget the Nokia phones. In fact, Nokia 1, Nokia 2, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7.1, and the Nokia 3310 are being sold to the U.S. market at not more than $350 through retailers like Best Buy and Amazon. However, these phones are only purchased through carriers and no direct suppliers in the country are present.
In 2018, all Nokia phones were released under the Google Android One Program giving them uncluttered stock Android experience and security updates straight from Google. With Nokia's partnership with Verizon, Cricket and Rogers, Google's Android One will no longer be on the scene.
Nokia, however, assures that even without the Google Android One, there is no need for consumers to worry because they work with their partners from manufacturers to carriers to bring updates to their devices quickly.
With Nokia's partnership with the U.S. telecommunications company, rumors began to spread that unlocked phones will no longer be sold through Amazon and Best Buy. HMD, however, ended the speculations saying that they will continue to release unlocked Nokia phones and that consumers should expect more devices soon, according to the Digital Trends.
