Rumors are currently surrounding Marc Gasol as there were reports of the Memphis Grizzlies continuing trade discussions before the deadline on Thursday, February 7. The team is currently in "strong talks" with other teams on trading their long-time leader who has been considered as their cornerstone too.
In an article published by Sports Illustrated, Gasol and fellow Grizzlies player Mike Conley are currently in talks of being negotiated with the Utah Jazz. The Toronto Raptors is also reportedly offering Jonas Valanciunas and Kyle Lowry in exchange for Conley and Gasol.
Lowry, the All-Star point guard of Raptors, was reported to be aware of the negotiations his team is currently dealing with Conley and Gasol that will involve him. This is according to another source who shared this information with Sports Illustrated.
Sources also told Sports Illustrated that Grizzlies is currently eyeing for younger players such as OG Anunoby from Raptors or Dante Exum and Grayson Allen from Jazz in exchange of Gasol and Conley. The Grizzlies has already rejected Raptor's first offer to them.
Meanwhile, CBS Sports reported that the Grizzlies is currently in negotiations with the Charlotte Hornets in getting Gasol. They reported that Shams Charania, sports reporter for The Athletic, found out that Gasol could be the first one from the Grizzlies that may be shipped out of their team.
The Grizzlies had a great start when they had a 15-9 start thanks to the strong play of Gasol and Conley. However, their early glory in the season started to fade out after having that score.
It was obvious for NBA fans that the Hornets is hungry to have a remarkable performance that will get them back to the postseason by showing interest in acquiring Gasol. They already resisted attempted by other teams in prying Kemba Walker away for them so that they can secure that solid performance.
Injuries sustained by some of their team players were a hindrance to the Grizzlies' performance. Despite the strong play by Gasol and Conley, the team eventually bowed out after winning just six games.
The team reported that they are still trying to keep Gasol and Conley. However, several sports media outlets already reported in January that the Grizzlies suddenly became open in listening to various deals in trading players.
Gasol is currently averaging 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. He also recorded 44.4 percent of shooting performance from the field, 34.4 percent from beyond the arc and 75.6 percent from the free-throw line
