The trend of manufacturing electric vehicles has seen certain hype in recent times. The development has been particularly evident in terms of sports vehicles, SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks and crossovers. But the concept of all-electric configuration for a pickup truck has not been seen yet in reality. General Motors is probably going to be the first vehicle maker to tease such a dimension with its next edition of Chevrolet Silverado, as per the latest insights.
According to Automobile, the insight came from an update provided by the senior executive of GM. The source suggested that GM CEO Mary Barra was the first person to outline GM's plan to unveil a brand new Chevrolet Silverado which will have an all-electric configuration. Barra's supporting statement to the idea came as an answer to a question made by an analyst the company's recent financial earnings conference call. While the analyst that whether the company is planning to launch a fully electric Silverado, Barra answered and said: "We believe in an all EV future so you'll have to stay tuned."
The answer was not that much convincing to the fact that GM's next project is an EV Silverado truck. But, it should be taken consideration, that Barra didn't deny that there is a fully electric Chevrolet Silverado in the making. In fact, partially she supported the existence of that or, such an electric pick-up vehicle. CarBuzz also quoted in this context that a similar project for an electric GMC Sierra, which can be considered as a twin brother to Chevrolet Silverado is underway, as per the insights.
Barra also reportedly said that electric vehicle is likely to be the future of vehicle world. Recently, Chinese government authorities have legalized electric vehicles and also planning to promote the idea in the whole of the country. As GM has made its ties with Honda stronger to focus more on the Chinese vehicle market, the company is assumed to promote the production of electric vehicles in the coming days as to overpower the country's roads. Moreover, other major rivals of GM such as Volkswagen, Ford etc. are also reportedly planning to start the productions of their very own electric pick up trucks.
Barra has not revealed any particular date or, a timeline for the official revelation of an EV truck, but, according to a majority of the car analysts, GM is likely to reveal the first look of all EV Chevrolet Silverado, by the end of the first phase of this year.
