Everyone deserves a second chance, including NFL player Kareem Hunt. The 23-year-old running back signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, something that came as a surprise following the release of videos showing him assaulting a woman at a hotel.

When the footage of the incident came out, Hunt was released by his team at the time - the Kansas City Chiefs. The NFL is still investigating the matter as of this writing. After the deal became official, Hunt issued a statement, Reuters reported.

"First off, I would like to once again apologize for my actions last year. What I did was wrong and inexcusable,” Hunt said.

"I’m extremely grateful that John Dorsey, Dee, and Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns organization are granting me the opportunity to earn their trust and represent their organization in the best way possible on and off the field," he added.

Part of the credit of giving Kareem Hunt a second chance goes to Browns' general manager John Dorsey. He is the same person who drafted Hunt out of Toledo and remained in contact with the third round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

“There were two important factors: one is that Kareem took full responsibility for his egregious actions and showed true remorse and secondly, just as importantly, he is undergoing and is committed to necessary professional treatment and a plan that has been clearly laid out,” said Dorsey in the same report from Reuters.

Several NFL players were also happy that Hunt got a second chance to play pro football. Jonnu Smith of the Tennessee Titans said that everyone makes mistakes and he is glad that the NFL is giving guys a second chance, TMZ Sports reported.

Jeremiah McKinnon of the Philadelphia Eagles concurred and said that he is glad that Kareem Hunt got a second chance. With the signing, both Smith and McKinnon believe the Browns will be a team to watch in 2019.

However, Hunt is not entirely off the hook. Depending on the ongoing investigation by the NFL, the embattled running back could face a 10 or 12 game suspension if not the majority of the 2019 NFL season.

Should Hunt get the ax, the Browns seem to have his position covered. They have another running back in the mix in Nick Chubb, a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
