With a two-part series capper, NBC's popular science-fiction travel drama Timeless has drawn its curtain down. The next question that truly matters now will be about the future of the franchise. People are looking towards a possibility that Season 3 will be a prelude to something bigger.
The closing perspective has been prepared by no less than the endearing pilot Malcolm Barrett. The man who played Rufus on Timeless gets killed. It will be a two-way spread from there as the Time team buckles down to separate stretches to prevent any last-ditch efforts of bringing destruction.
On one timeline, Claudia Doumit's Jiya joins Matt Lanter's Wyatt and Abigail Spencer's Lucy in the California gold rush of the 19th Century. The Time team will battle Annie Wersching's Emma Whitmore who spearheads the Rittenhouse group. Viewers are in for a surprise due to Goran Visnjc's Garcia Flynn who has turned hero from being a resident villain.
Along the way, the team encounters Victor Rivers's Joaquin Murrieta, a Mexican outlaw who is a motivational figure for Zorro. But it is Flynn's heroics which will save the day as he plunges into an unexpected turn. He kills the pilot's anti-hero ex-wife Jessica who is portrayed by Tonya Glanz. History rewrites itself, and Rufus gets to live again.
The other end of the timeline brings the Time team to North Korea in 1950. War across the peninsula is prevented after a resident family gets reunited. Then the show fast tracks to the year 2023 which is a period of joyful togetherness so to speak.
Rufus and Jiya are happy together while Lucy and Wyatt are married with twins in the house. There is something at this point which can be tapped as a prelude to next season if the franchise wishes to pursue. It's back to 2014 and Lucy hands her journal to Flynn. Anything can happen afterwards since that travel book is something that uncorked the Timeless sequences.
Asked if another season is in the works, co-creator Arika Lisanne Mittman is open to a lot of possibilities. Judging from what the show has undergone in the past, the likelihood of things to be will eventually run its course if permitted.
Getting back everyone together has been quite fulfilling for the Timeless production considering that the cast has opportunities to pursue elsewhere, but all came back. Also, what the production has gone through during its early days comes pretty close to an astonishing feat. Three days after the show has been canceled, it all came back to life.
