A recent information leak gave Apple iPad Mini fans hope that a successor to the dated 2015 Apple iPad Mini 4 may finally be coming out. However, the news came as somewhat of a two-pronged sword. Enthusiasts may have felt hopeful at the possibility of an Apple iPad Mini 5 coming out soon, but the leaked specifics on supposed features may have come as a bit of a letdown.
Still, though, iPad enthusiasts have welcomed this tidbit and are looking forward to a possible release of the new model sometime in the first half of 2019, possibly in June. A closer view of leaked images of the said Apple iPad Mini 5 revealed the absence of a USB-C charge port, indicative of the intention of making the model more affordable to a broader market; it may sport the Lightning connector instead.
The iPad Mini 4 dimensions will be retained on the new Apple iPad Mini 5, but the mic on the back may be moved to the upper center of the model, again, evidently with the intention of cost-effectiveness. Also retained are Touch ID plus the 3.5-mm phone jack possibly through an A10 fusion chip as with the iPhone 7 or the iPad Pro.
There are indications that this next iteration of the iPad Mini may be used with the Apple Pencil as well as accommodate the Smart Keyboard. This is something that iPad Mini enthusiasts may welcome as a bit of change from the previous version since there appears to be very little besides an upgrade of iPad Mini 4 internal specs, namely its processor, and display panel happening.
The whole point, it would seem, of the rumored upcoming fifth-generation iPad Mini is to provide a similar look but with a far-reaching market than that of the fourth-generation iteration. It is possible this approach to the said upcoming Apple iPad Mini 5 is a bid to invigorate a languishing market.
Some followers of the Apple iPad line seeking an iPad Pro styled new-generation iPad mini sporting features like facial recognition, and edge-to-edge screen display may be a tad disappointed if the current specs leak proves accurate.
On the other hand, so-far-only-admirers of the iPad line of gadgets may be glad of the affordability the supposed new Apple iPad Mini 5 will take on in the market. Come spring, followers of the Apple iPad Mini may finally get their much-wanted answers, should the rumors prove.
